Mylor Cup Race Report
The last race of the season started with a forecast of wind speeds of 1 to 4kn from every imaginable direction. Steve Przybylski, the RO from Mylor, set a 10nm course for the IRC fleet, and a slightly shorter course for the YTC fleet. I thought that even that was ambitious, but, as with last year in difficult winds, Steve set us a great course, with jibs, genoas, code zeros and spinnakers all being used with good effect on different legs of the course. The wind speed varied from 0.1 to 11kn during the day, often changing directions and speeds within seconds and we all experienced wind holes during the race. Ten IRC and six YTC boats started and all finished but one – Freya, on Lilliburlero decided to retire. It was a really tactical race and a huge crowd turned up to Mylor for the prizegiving and for a meal of Chilli, prepared by the Mylor team and paid for by COGS. It was mostly sunny and I think that everyone really enjoyed the day.
Camp Freddie, Trigger’s Broom and Afrita took the honours in the IRC fleet, with a third place good enough for Andrew Laming in Afrita to win the Coastal Series.
Green Magnum, Bad Habits and Blue Horizon were the top three in the RYA YTC, with Rod Wootton in Green Magnum winning the Series. Pogolyre and Songbird took the first two places in the RYA YTC short handed category.
Congratulations to all of the winners and to all those that took part in COGS this year – it was a really bumper year!
